Rohit Sharma recovered

India will face New Zealand in their final group-stage match in Dubai on March 2, 2025 (Sunday). Ahead of this crucial clash, India’s Assistant Coach, Ryan Ten Doeschate, provided an important update on Rohit Sharma's hamstring injury.

Ten Doeschate also shared insights into the decision to select KL Rahul as the first-choice wicketkeeper over Rishabh Pant for the Champions Trophy 2025.

Rohit Sharma sustained a hamstring injury during the match against Pakistan and was seen leaving the field to take precautionary measures during the first innings.

In his latest update, Ten Doeschate confirmed, “It's an injury.” He emphasized that Rohit is doing his best to recover but may choose to stay off the field during the match against New Zealand, similar to his approach in the game against Pakistan. This strategy would allow Rohit to manage his injury effectively in preparation for the semi-finals.

"He's all right. As you can see, he's batting, and he did a little bit of fielding earlier. It's an injury he's had before, so he knows how to manage it well, and he's on top of it,

When asked about Rishabh Pant’s situation within the squad and whether he would play in this Champions Trophy, Ten Doeschate handled the question well. He highlighted KL Rahul's recent performances, stating that Rahul has taken his chances well after a long time in the team. He has excelled in the first ODI and has shown flexibility by batting down the order and performing effectively behind the stumps.

“It's been very hard on Rishabh not playing, but that's the nature of sport at this level. KL's been good. He didn't get many chances, and when you're batting at six or seven, it's difficult to get proper opportunities," he explained.

Regarding Rishabh Pant, Ten Doeschate mentioned that Pant remains an integral part of their plans. The team is keeping him well-trained, as they never know when his skills might be needed. Pant is well prepared and ready for any opportunity that may arise.
