It is India vs. New Zealand in Dubai for the grand finale of the Champions Trophy 2025. New Zealand reached the finals after defeating South Africa in Lahore, while South Africa faces yet another elimination in the knockout phase, continuing to struggle with their ‘Choker’ tag.
New Zealand chose to bat first in Lahore and posted a formidable total of 362 for 6. Centuries from Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson were pivotal in achieving this score.
SA Choked Again
South Africa began their chase slowly but gained momentum with a solid second-wicket partnership of 105 runs between Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen. At this point, South Africa appeared to be cruising towards the target. However, Temba Bavuma was dismissed after contributing a well-paced 56 runs off 71 balls.

Once Bavuma was out, Aiden Markram formed a brief partnership with van der Dussen, continuing to push toward the target until New Zealand's captain, Mitchell Santner, dismissed the well-settled van der Dussen for 66 runs off 69 balls.
This led to South Africa losing momentum as wickets began to fall consistently, with no partnerships able to stabilize the innings.
Valiant Effort From David Miller
David Miller, known as the Proteas' crisis man, stood firm at one end while watching his teammates depart quickly. South Africa's middle and lower order struggled against the New Zealand spinners, with Santner, Bracewell, and Glenn Phillips each claiming important wickets. Despite being in a losing position, Miller fought valiantly alongside Kagiso Rabada, striving to the last ball.
He managed to score a century off just 67 balls, but unfortunately, it was not enough to get his team over the line. Miller only needed a strong contribution from his fellow batters, as the pitch still appeared good for batting in the final overs. Unfortunately, he was let down by his teammates once again in another ICC tournament, as South Africa lost the match by 50 runs.
