Sri Lanka Masters posted a total of 173 runs in the first innings in the 10th match of the International Masters League T20 2025 with Asela Gunaratne starring with the bat, scoring an important half-century.
After being asked to bat first, Sri Lanka’s innings began with a shaky start. The centurion from the last game, Upul Tharanga, perished early via a run-out. This put Sri Lanka Masters under pressure as Tharanga was the one who did bulk of the scoring in the previous match.
Sri Lanka Masters captain Kumar Sangakkara and their No. 3 batter Lahiru Thirimanne helped their side recover from the early dismissal. They stitched a 45-run partnership with Sangakkara contributing mostly. Thirimmane was cleaned up by Ashley Nurse as Sri Lanka again had their backs against the wall.

Asela Gunaratne’s Fifty Takes Sri Lanka Masters to Fighting Total
Gunaratne stepped up for Sri Lanka at a critical juncture. During his innings, he blended watchful defense with calculated aggression, picking his moments to strike.
His 50-run partnership with Sangakkara brought Sri Lanka out of a tough spot. However, Nurse struck again and showed the exit door to Sangakkara in the 13th over. A collapse ensued with Sri Lanka reeling at 118/6 in 15.4 overs.
Gunaratne did not give up and kept on fighting. He reached his fifty in the process. The right-handed batter was ultimately dismissed in the 19th over by Tino Best. But his 45-ball 64 pushed Sri Lanka to a respectable total of 173 runs in their 20 overs.
For the West Indies, Nurse and Best starred with the ball, bagging three and two scalps respectively.
