Six teams - Bangladesh, West Indies, Ireland, Scotland, and Thailand -besides Pakistan, will play in the tournament, and compete for the two spots available for the eight-team World Cup set to be played in India. Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and hosts India have secured their spots for the showpiece event, which is likely to start on October 2025.

A hybrid model will be in place if Pakistan qualifies for the World Cup

For the unversed, the 50-over World Cup will be important for India, given the political and diplomatic dynamics between India and Pakistan. As per the recent agreement between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), to host ICC events in each other countries, the two boards have agreed to play matches in the neutral venue. The recent IND vs PAK match in Champions Trophy was held in Dubai.

If Pakistan qualifies for the Women's World Cup, a key point of focus will be where the match will be held. India last hosted the showpice event in 2013, with a hybrid model in place. While Pakistan's all the matches were played in Mumbai, some matches were shifted to Cuttack due to threat from a political party in Mumbai.
