Bharti Fulmali scored 61 off just 25 balls against MI

Mumbai Indians have kept their winning run over Gujarat Giants in the WPL after beating them by nine runs in match 19 on Monday, March 10. The win takes Mumbai Indians to the second position on the WPL 2025 points table. They have a chance to finish at the top of the points table if they beat RCB Women in their final league game on Tuesday.

The team that tops the points table after 8 league matches will reach the final directly. Meanwhile, the next two teams play the Eliminator to take on the top team in the final.

As of now, Delhi Capitals are topping the points table with 10 points and a better net run-rate than MI who after beating the Titans moved upto the second position on the table. This was MI's sixth win on the trot against the Giants.

Chasing 180 to win, halfway through the chase, it looked all but over for the Giants. They were struggling badly at 92/6 in the 14th over. However, Bharti Fulmali (61 off 25) and Simran Sheikh (18 off 16) kept their team in the hunt with a 50-run stand. The Giants scored more than 70 runs in the final six overs of their run-chase but still fell agonisingly short of the target. Hayley Mathews and Amelia Kerr took three wickets each to slow down the Giants run-chase in the final overs.

Previously in the game, Gujarat Giants won the toss and opted to bowl first. They had a good start with the ball not allowing Mumbai to cross 50 runs inside the powerplay. The spinners kept a check in the middle-overs. However, Harmanpreet Kaur managed to find the boundary in the final overs and with support from Amanjot Kaur (27 off 15) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (38 off 31) helped their side reach 179/6 in their 20 overs.

It was a riveting contest in the end with the Mumbai Indians keeping their nerves despite a late surge from the Giants lower-order. Mumbai after their win over Gujarat will get another chance to top the points table as they take on the RCB in their last league game on Tuesday, March 11. The final league game will decide who among MI and DC will make it to the final directly by virtue of topping the table. The Giants will play the Eliminator on March 13.

"We bowled well in patches, but we should give credit to their batters, they kept the match on and we have to learn from our mistakes. We will rethink what went wrong and in the next game we will learn from our mistakes. We got decent total on the board and we were in the game in the first 10 overs, but credit to Bharti for the way she batted today and that is how the wicket plays here" said MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur after the win.
