Bangladesh have announced their 15-member preliminary squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. They are among several other teams who have already named their provisional squads.
Bangladesh will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto. The side is without their star players Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das. While Shakib is out with a reported bowling action, Litton is out of form as per the Bangladesh Cricket Board reports.
Meanwhile, this is the first time Bangladesh will be playing an ICC tournament without Shakib Al Hasan. Very recently Shakib led the side in the ODI World Cup in India and was part of the Tigers 2024 T20 World Cup squad. Former Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal also announced his international retirement before the mega ICC event.

Gazi Ashraf Hossain On Bangladesh Leaving Out Shakib, Litton
Bangladesh chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain admitted that veteran all-rounder Shakib was considered but could not fit him in as a pure batter in the squad. He further added that Litton was excluded due to his recent strut of poor performances and not having been able to take advantage of the PowerPlay.
"There is problem with his [Shakib] bowling action as it is negative," We have thought about him only as a batsman but could not give him a place in the combination only as a batsman" Ashraf said.
"Litton is out of form. His pattern of getting out is quite similar. He is not occupying the crease in the PowerPlay and as a result could not take advantage in the PowerPlay. He is getting exposed at number three. We still gave him chance but we are not having confidence in him" he further said on Litton.
Bangladesh are placed alongside India, Pakistan and New Zealand in Group A in the tournament. They play their first game against India (February 20) in Dubai, followed by matches against New Zealand (February 24) and Pakistan (February 28) in Rawalpindi respectively.
