Australlia WOmen vs England Women 2nd ODI Report

Australia women's cricket team won the second ODI against England by 21 runs to win the series 2-0. The second ODI played at the Junction Oval in Melbourne saw the Australian eves clinch the game.

England won the toss and opted to bowl first. They headed into this game after a loss in the first ODI. Hence they backed their batters to chase the target. A 60 off 74 balls from all-rounder Elysse Perry guided the team to 180 in 44.3 overs.

This happened after Alyssa Healy (29) and Phoebe Litchfield (29) added a 46-run stand for the first wicket. After Perry's 60 none of the lower-order batters could even score 20.

The bowling from the England bowlers was particularly good to the middle and lower-order batters. Spinner Sophie Ecclestone took four wickets and all-rounder Alysse Capsey took three. Pacer Lauran Bell took two.

Chasing 181 to win, England were bowled out for 159 in the 49th over of their innings. Wicket-keeper Amy Jones top-scored with an unbeaten 47. None of the other batters of the side could contribute anything substantial. As many as six England batters scored in single-digits which was the difference in the game.

Australia Bag Series With Win At Melbourne

The Australian bowlers chipped away with the wickets at regular intervals. Pacer Kim Garth took three wickets followed by a four-wicket spell from Alana King. Megan Schutt and Ashleigh Gardner took a wicket each. Alana King was named the Player Of The Match for her exceptional four-wicket haul. She complimented the performance from the bowlers to win the game

"A tremendous game of cricket. Was a serious effort from the bowlers. Our bowlers did an outstanding job, there was enough in the wicket. They created pressure (by bowling in the right areas) and the fielders held on to those chances. We speak about hanging in there in the contest and create opportunities. We need to put up a more complete performance together at Hobart (next game)" King said after the game.

The three-match ODI series is a part of the Women's Ashes 2025. With the first two ODIS won by Australia, they have bagged the series with the final ODI to be played on Friday, January 17. The ODIs are followed by three T20Is on January 20, 23 and 25. The one-off Ashes Test will be played from January 30-February 2 in Melbourne.
