Mumbai Indians (MI) take on Gujarat Giants (GG) in the last league match of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL). The match is a dead rubber, as the WPL playoff spots have been confirmed, with GG, MI, and DC making the playoffs. However, there is still a lot to play for in the MI vs GG clash, as both teams can top the points table. Whoever tops the table will directly qualify for the finals.
Currently, DC are the table toppers, with 10 points. GG and MI are placed second and third respectively on the points table with eight points. If GG can win against MI by 17 runs margin or chase the target, (of say 180) in 18 overs, then they finish at the top of the points table. MI have also chance to finish at the top of the points table, but for that, they need to win both their games to go to 12 points and seal the top spot.

After finishing at the bottom of the points for two consecutive years, GG have finally made it to their maiden playoff in the WPL 2025 season. The Ash Gardner-led side started the tournament on a disastrous note by losing two games on the bounce, however, they started to fire as a unit in the Bengaluru leg of WPL. In the Lucknow leg of the tournament, GG won three games on the bounce and emphatically secured the playoff spot. Skipper Gardner has led from the front by scoring 235 runs in seven games.
The all-rounder has also chipped in with wickets at crucial junctures and has also made correct calls about captaincy. Gardner has good support from Beth Mooney and Harleen Deol. In the bowling, Kashvee Gautam has been a revelation. The youngster has picked nine wickets in seven games and is Gardner's go-to-bowler. Things are falling in place for GG, and they would be eager to keep the winning streak going.
On the other hand, MI has yet again done the basics right in the WPL 2025. The WPL 2023 winners, foreign stars - Nat Sciver-Burnt, Amelie Kerr, and Hayley Matthews, have clicked, and that has taken of lot of pressure from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. Sciver-Burnt is second on the leading run scorer list with 309 runs. The talismanic all-roounder's runs at the top have propelled MI to huge scores.
In the bowling, Kerr, Matthews, and Sciver-Burnt have regularly taken wickets in the middle phase of the innings. The only concern for MI has been Yastika Bhatia's form. The wicketkeeper-batter has not fired, as expected from her. MI would be banking on her to come good during the knockout phase of WPL.
