Australia skipper Tahila McGrath took her team to victory in the second T20I against Engalnd women at Canberra on Thursday, January 23. Australia won the match via DLS method by six runs in the end.

Having lost the first T20I, England won the toss and opted to bowl first in Canberra. Australia piled up 185/5 in their 20 overs with Beth Mooney scoring 44 off 31 balls. The real impetus to the innings was provided by al-rounder Tahila McGrath who scored 48 off 35 balls in the end with a strike rate touching 140.

Grace Harris, another all-rounder clobbered 35 off 17 balls at a strike rate of over 200 to take the Aussies to a competitive total. England used six bowlers all of whom went for runs. Charlie Dean took one wicket and Sophie Ecclestone took one.

England began their chase needing 186 runs to win. They began well with Danielle Wyatt scoring 52 off 40 balls laying the platform. Sophia Dunkley (32), Nat Sciver-Brunt (22) and skipper Heather Knight (43* off 19) took England close to the total.

Heading into the last over, England needed 18 runs to win off six balls. There was an unfortunate rain break that broke the concentration of the England batters. The target was revised to 175 and the England skipper hit a four off the very first delivery from Annabel Sutherland in the last over.

Glad Its Al Done: Tahila McGrath On DLS Win

England were well poised to win the match when the came rain came down and this time was an unrelenting one. In the end, Australia narrowly managed a win by six runs via the DLS method.

"Feels pretty nice. It was a team performance today, Grace at the back end showed her class. Tough to bowl in these conditions, tough to grip the ball. (On DLS) We have a few conversations with the players on the stratergies, glad it is all done" said Tahila McGrath after the win.

England in the end were denied a series-levelling victory. They lost the ODI series and lost the first T20I as well. They made a good comeback in the match and in the end would consider them slightly unlucky not to end on the right side of the result.

The final T20I will be played on Saturday in Adelaide. The two teams will then play the much-awaited Women's Ashes Test match at the MCG from January 30 to February 2.
