The IPL 2025 kicks off with the KKR vs RCB contest at Eden Gardens on March 22. The match starts from 7.30 PM IST. KKR and RCB played the season opener of the very first edition of the IPL in 2008. 18 years later, it is these two teams who are kicking off an IPL season again.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and rainfall in Kolkata until March 22, owing to an anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. There is a possibility of the match getting washed out as well.

Since winning the IPL 2024 title last year, KKR have changed a lot in terms of management and captaincy. Shreyas Iyer is no longer the captain. KKR announced Ajinkya Rahane as their new captain ahead of the new season. The coaching staff has also seen changes with DJ Bravo joining the team as mentor. Chadrakant Pandit was retained as the head coach ahead of the new season. Ottis Gibson was appointed as the Assistant Coach. Once again RCB have build their team around batters with lack of depth in the bowling department. Everything about this team has revolved around Virat Kohli since the last few years. Once again, he is the main man yet again for the franchise who are eyeing to win their maiden IPL title.
