Jomel Warrican-Pakistan

West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican took nine wickets in the second Test against Pakistan in Multan as the visitors won the match by 120 runs. The win ensured that the visitors pipped the hosts to finish ninth on the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table.

Pakistan finished the campaign rock bottom with a PCT of 27.980. Meanwhile, West Indies ended with 28.210. The hosts prepared rank turners in the two-match Test series.

Pakistan won the first test by 127 runs but lost the second Test by 120 runs. The Windies scored 163 batting first. Pakistan in response were bowled out for 154 with Mohammad Rizwan top-scoring in the first innings with 49. The Windies in their second innings score a defiant 244 with their captain standing tall to score 52 off 74 balls.

Pakistan Batting Collapses In Multan

For Pakistan, things got even worse in their second innings, as they were bowled out for 133 allowing West Indies to win the match by 120 runs. Babar Azam scored 1 and 31 in the two innings with skipper Shan Masood scoring 2 and 15. After the 49 in the first innings, Rizwan scored just 25 in the second innings.

Jomel Warrican weaved his magic around the Pakistan batters none of whom were able to read the left-arm spinner. He finished with nine in the match and 19 in the series. Pakitan spinners Noman Ali (16) and Sajid Khan (15) also had a good time in the Test match taking wickets.

“We haven’t won here in a while so to come here and do it as a young group is incredible,” West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite said, referring to the tourists’ last win in Pakistan by seven wickets at Faisalabad in Nov. 1990.

Warrican who was named the Player Of The Series, spoke about how he went with the ball in decimating the Pakistan batting lineup.

"Speeds were very important, bowling slower was very effective and once I worked it out, it worked to my advantage. I just backed myself, backed my ability to find the boundaries and rotate strike. We were backing ourselves to win the game, we had the belief after having bowled them out for a cheap total in the first innings. Variation in pace, hitting the same length over and over, just bowling consistently in the same area was the key for success" said the WIndies left-arm spinner.

Pakistan skipper Shan Masood looked agitated in the post-match press conference where questions were hurled at him as Pakistan finished last in the campaign. The Men in Green finished fifth in the first WTC campaign and seventh in the 2021-23 campaign.
