The tension between Gautam Gambhir and Manoj Tiwary is well-known, and Tiwary has recently opened up about the strained relationship, aiming for the Indian cricket team’s head coach. In a recent interview, he accused Gambhir of using "abuse and threats" during a heated argument, which nearly turned physical. 

Tiwary recalled an incident from their Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) days where they had a serious disagreement about his batting position. Tiwary was so upset he stormed off to the washroom, only for Gambhir to barge in and threaten him, saying, "I won’t ever give you a game." The confrontation nearly escalated until Wasim Akram, the bowling coach at the time, intervened and calmed things down.

The two cricketers also had a notorious clash during a Ranji Trophy match in 2015. Tiwary claimed that Gambhir had abused him from the slips, using derogatory language and even threatened him. “It was a Ranji Trophy match, and I was taking guard. He started abusing me with words like (Meet me in the evening, I’m going to thrash you.) I responded, ‘Why evening? Let’s do it now.’ I was strong enough to stand up for myself,” Tiwary recalled during the interview.

New Rivalry Off the Field?

Both cricketers are well-known for their time with the Kolkata Knight Riders during their successful run, where they won the trophy twice. Gautam Gambhir led the team, while Manoj Tiwary played an important role in that success. Tiwary also touched on his frustrations with the lack of media support, suggesting that if he had a proper PR team, he could’ve been India’s captain. “When a new player emerges, they get a lot of media attention. Maybe that’s why he was angry with me. If I had the right PR, I could have been the India captain today,” Tiwary said during his conversation with Lallantop.
