17-year-old Ayush Mhatre put on a show in the Southern derby clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 43 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. CSK's Mhatre played fearlessly as he took SRH's most experienced new-ball bowlers, Mohammad Shami and Pat Cummins. Although the teenager lost his opening partner Shaik Rasheed for (0) and Sam Curran (9) runs, he continued to attack SRH bowlers.
There was no wild slog from Mhatre, as every shot he played were clean as a whistle. The CSK opener's blitz in the power play enabled a brisk start for the team. Before this match, for the large of their IPL 2025 campaign, CSK have struggled in the power play. Today, Mhatre displayed a fearless attitude and singled his intentions very clear. Notably, CSK who included Dewald Brevis was not sent into bat at number four.
CSK sent Curran at three and Ravindra Jadeja at number four. Nonetheless, Ayush Mhatre was looking good to hit his first IPL fifty, but he was dismissed for 19-ball 30 runs.
SRH on top in the first 10 overs as CSK aims to consolidate
With three wickets lost, CSK will now aim to rebuild their innings. With the Chepauk surface good for batting, any total below 180 will not be enough to challenge the might of SRH's batting line-up. While CSK managed to get to 50 runs in the power play, they also lost three wickets, which slightly shifted the momentum in SRH's favor. Ravindra Jadeja got a reprieve as he dropped on (8) runs by Harshal Patel. How costly it will be prove to be only time will it.
The catch did not prove to be too costly as the southpaw was out for (21) runs. At the half way stage, CSK are 76/4.
