Junaid Zafar Khan, a cricketer of Pakistani origin, tragically passed away due to heat waves in Adelaide, Australia. He represented the Old Concordians Cricket Club in Adelaide. During a 40-over club match, he fielded for the entire duration and scored 16 runs on a sunny day before collapsing on the field.
Junaid was observing Ramadan that day, adhering to his religious practices by consuming only water throughout the day. Unfortunately, he collapsed just before he was scheduled to break his fast. Reports indicate that he collapsed during the match on Saturday, with temperatures reaching 41.7°C. He fell around 4 p.m., and paramedics were called to the scene.

Having moved from Pakistan to Australia in 2013 to work in the tech industry, the 40-year-old had represented various clubs during his cricketing career in Australia.
The Adelaide Turf Cricket Association stated that they have rules requiring games to be called off if temperatures exceed 42°C, while matches can be played up to 40°C with special precautions, including extra breaks for hydration and rest from the heat.
The club released an official statement, expressing their sorrow:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of a valued member who tragically suffered a medical episode while playing. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he could not be saved. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and teammates.”
