As per reports in the Times of India, the BCCI is likely to announce the new central contract list of players in October 2025. The announcement has not been made and is delayed as a proper assessment is still pending.

The Indian players are currently busy playing in the IPL. Their next international calendar will start with the Test series against England starting on June 20.

Meanwhile, as per the BCCI policies, a player contract runs from October to September. This means that the last contracts of the Indian players expired in September 2024. Usually, the new contract list is announced by February-March by the BCCI, but the same has not happened this time around.

BCCI To Review India's Performance In Tests Against Australia, NZ

The reason behind this is expected to be India's loss to New Zealand and Australia in the WTC 2023-24 season. The Kiwis got the better of Team India, who also lost a Test series to Australia down under. The BCCI is expected to assess the performance of the players before coming out with the updated contract list of players.

Meanwhile, the upcoming Test series against England kicks off India's WTC 2025-27 campaign. Contrary to previous reports, Rohit Sharma is keen to travel to England for the upcoming series. Rohit remained positive about India's chances of beating England in England. The board officials are expected to have a discussion with Gautam Gambhir regarding India's roadmap for the future. The head coach is also expected to share his inputs.

With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja also announcing their retirement from T20I cricket, the board is thinking about what category to keep the trio in. There are discussions that the trio might get an A or A+ category.

“If one looks at the performances in the year 2023-24, India has won the T20 World Cup besides being consistent in the other formats. In that case, the likes of Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja don’t deserve being pushed down (in the gradation system of the contracts). “The Test series loss to New Zealand at home and the debacle in Australia happened after Oct. The board doesn’t mind giving the payouts as per the last contracts. If the board gives fresh contracts in Oct, it will give a better idea of vision of the future,” a BCCI source said.

BCCI Looking To Trim Down Support Staff

The BCCI is also looking to trim down India's support staff. Currently, along with Gautam Gambhir as the head coach, there are six other members who are part of the support staff. Abhishek Nair and Ryan ten Doeschate are the assistant coaches, with T. Dilip as the fielding coach. Morne Morkel is the bowling coach, while Sitanshu Kotak is the batting coach.

Other members outside the core support staff include the physio, the throwdown specialist, the team doctor, and the massage therapists.
