Nat Siver Brunt England Captain

All-rounder Nat Sciver Brunt is set to replace Heather Knight as the next England skipper. Head coach Charlotte Edwards is keen to get Sciver-Brunt into the role as both have a very good equation working as captain-coach in various T20 leagues. Also, the talismanic all-rounder has been identified as the prime candidate to replace Knight after she stepped down from the role after England's humiliating Ashes whitewash against Australia Down Under.

Currently, Sciver-Brunt is on maternity leave after the birth of her son with partner Katherine Brunt. For the unversed, formal discussions will take place when the all-rounder will return to training. The only concern for the the 32-year-old is the workload and her effect on her role as England's all-formats captain.

It is to be noted that coach Edwards is very much interested in having Sciver-Brunt as captain at the start of a crucial period that includes a 50-Over World Cup 2025 in India, and a home T20 World Cup next year. Edwards also stated although the England all-rounder is not best known as great tactician, her vast experience and inspirational personality make her best candidate to be the next England captain.

The England Cricket Board (ECB) is likely to announce the next England captain before the T20 World Cup 2026 launch event at Lord's on May 01. The England team have a packed summer assignments with three T20Is and three ODIs against West Indies, before India visit for a white-ball series.

Edwards feels currently there is no one better than Sciver-Brunt to replace Knight in the role for captaincy as the coach feels Sciver-Brunt has what it takes to gel with youngsters as well as experienced players in the England team.

“I will make the players more accountable for their fitness, that’s something I’m going to do,” Edwards said after her appointment this month. “But I wouldn’t have taken on this role if I didn’t think that in six months we could win a World Cup in India. I think we’ve got the playing group to do that. We’ve got a lot of hard work to do and a lot of honesty, but I’m really confident that we can turn things around very quickly.

“I’m under no illusions, coming into this role, it’s about winning. I think coaches are sometimes too scared to say we want to win. That’s our job. My job is to win games of cricket, and it’s how we go and do that now.”
