Gujarat Titans (GT) put on a spinning masterclass at the Eden Gardens surface against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 21 in the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season as they thrashed KKR by 39 runs. Sai Kishore, Rashid Khan, and Washington Sundar were simply unplayable, as they did not give any freebies to KKR batters. Ironically, the home side's spinners Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine, failed to pick a single wicket. But GT's spinners dominated the match and pocketed two more points.
Chasing a huge target of 199 runs, KKR got off to a disastrous start as they lost opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz for just (1) run. Sunil Narine (17) runs tried to get going by taking on GT bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna but perished by playing one too many shots. Yet again, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane (50) runs played a valuable knock, but he did not get any support from the other end.
Venketash Iyer 19-ball 14 runs failed to get going and ate three overs. The southpaw's slow batting put added pressure on the rest of the KKR batters, from which they could just not break free.
GT continues to march on, pockets sixth win in the IPL 2025 season
GT continued to show why they are rated the most consistent team in the IPL 2025 season by playing solidly with bat and ball. The variety in GT's attack is their biggest strength, and it yet again came to the fore against KKR. If Prasidh hits the deck hard and generates extra bounce, Siraj keeps the ball at the corridor of uncertainty and makes life difficult for most batters. Coming to the spinners, Rashid and Washington bowled attacking line and lengths, while Sai Kishore was brave enough to toss the ball up to the left-handers.
Gill's captaincy also stood out as he purposefully kept overs of Rashid to Andre Russell. The Caribbean batter struggled to get going against him, as he was yet again out to him for (21) runs.
