The Bayuemas Cricket Oval in Kuala Lumpur hosted the opening T20I of the Malaysia Tri-Nation T20I Series 2025, pitting Malaysia against Bahrain. In a one-sided contest, Bahrain made short work of Malaysia and won by six wickets.
The toss fell in Bahrain's favour and they opted to field first. The decision turned out to be right as Malaysia fell at the first hurdle, losing both their openers, Syed Aziz Mubarak and Zubaidi Zulkifle, inside the first two overs of the innings. Ali Dawood and Imran Anwar dismissed them respectively.
Ahmad Faiz also departed on the last ball of the powerplay as the hosts floundered at 30/3 in six overs. Virandeep Singh and Vijay Unni tried to bring Malaysia back from the brink. However, another setback hit them in the form of Unni’s dismissal.
Virandeep teamed up with Ahmed Aqeel Wahid for a 49-run partnership for the fifty wicket. Virandeep brought up his 17th T20I half-century in the process. He was sent packing by Rizwan Butt after scoring 65 runs off 51 deliveries.
While wickets continue to tumble, Ahmed finished unbeaten at 25 runs off 24 balls to help Malaysia record a total of 125/8 in 20 overs.
Anwar was the pick of the bowlers. In his four overs, he gave away 31 runs and bagged three wickets.

Asif Ali Takes Bahrain Home
Bahrain also lost an early wicket. Their opener Prashanth Kurup perished in the fifth over after scoring 12 runs. The dismissal turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Bahrain as their No.3 batter Asif Ali rained down destruction.
Ali took the bull by its horns. He threw caution to the wind and made the run-chase a child’s play for Bahrain, scoring 54 runs off 34 balls. He departed in the 16th over but the result was already clear by then.
Bahrain eventually achieved the target in 18.4 overs with six wickets to spare.
