Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are back at Eden Gardens and will be taking on the Gujarat Titans (GT) in match 39 of IPL 2025 in Kolkata on Monday, April 21. The match starts at 7:30 PM IST.
KKR is placed seventh on the points table and has won every alternate game so far in the season. Overall, they have won three and lost four of their first seven games of the season.
GT, on the other hand, is topping the IPL 2025 points table. They are one of the five teams with 10 points on board. However, they are topping the points table courtesy of their far superior NRR (+0.984).
KKR vs GT Match Preview
The Knight Riders have been guilty of losing two games that they should have ideally won. They lost to LSG by just four runs chasing 239 runs to win. Against PBKS, they could not chase 112 runs and were bowled out for just 95 runs. The two losses can come back to hurt them if they eventually do not make the IPL 2025 playoffs. Before their match against GT, Abhishek Nayar joined the franchise as support staff after BCCI snubbed him from India's Assistant coach position
With KKR starting their second half of the season with their match against GT, a few changes in the XI are required. Andre Russell and Quinton de Kock have not contributed substantially with the bat so far. With Rovman Powell and Rahmanullah Gurbaz waiting in the wings, the management should now consider giving them a chance. They should also play Moeen Ali ahead of Spencer Johnson, given they are playing at home and the pitch is expected to turn. There is also the case of Manish Pandey playing ahead of Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the main XI and not as just an Impact Sub. It will be interesting to see whether they make these changes.
Gujarat Titans have looked like a solid unit, with their top three scoring most of the runs. While Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan have been giving consistent starts at the top, Jos Buttler came to the party with an unbeaten 97 runs against Delhi Capitals. Gill and Buttler both enjoy batting against KKR and hence will be up for the challenge. Like Yuzvendra Chahal in the last game, Rashid Khan has favorable matchups against Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, and Gill will be aware of that. The Titans look the more compact side, with KKR struggling for consistency. The Knight Riders have already lost two out of the three home games played. A loss against GT would further derail their campaign.
KKR vs GT Head To Head
The two teams have played four games, with GT winning two games and KKR one, in which Rinku Singh hit Yash Dayal for five sixes in the last over in 2023. The match in 2024 was abandoned due to rain.
