India set to Play in New Strips at Dubai

The Champions Trophy begins tomorrow, with Pakistan playing New Zealand in the opening match of the tournament in Karachi. India will play Bangladesh on February 20th in Dubai. With the pre-match build-up gaining momentum, a new question has been raised: Are India's matches being played on a tired pitch in Dubai?

No. India's games will be played on two newly prepared strips in Dubai, specially designed for the Indian side. This was a worry after the recent series in Dubai, consisting of 15 ILT20 matches and various domestic T20Is. The main pitches have already taken a beating from many matches, leading to this question before India's match with Bangladesh.

Now that it has been confirmed that India will be playing all their games on new strips, one might ask how the pitch will behave. Dubai usually provides a dry surface that suits pace bowlers, as fast bowlers have always thrived and picked up more wickets there. The pitch gives decent bounce, which suits batsmen once they are settled.

Spinners, would not get too much assistance during the initial games and will have to bowl under dew when lights are on. Batting typically improves under the lights. That is the tendency for Dubai wickets, and that is expected to be the case this time too. Having quality in their team, India is perfectly equipped to adapt and deliver.
