Tilak Varma has finally broken the silence on being retired out during the Mumbai Indians (MI) game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. The southpaw was batting on 25 runs off 23 balls when MI management decided to call the batter into the dugout during the fag end of the run chase against LSG. Mitchell Santner walked in as the replacement batter for Varma.
However, the Kiwi batter and MI skipper Hardik Pandya could not finish the job as MI lost the game by 12 runs at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. While Varma made amends by scoring blistering fifties in MI's next games against RCB and DC, the southpaw opened up about being retired out against LSG.

Speaking to Star Sports after the DC vs MI game, Tilak Varma said, "Nothing. I was just thinking that they made the decision for the team’s purpose. So, I took it in a positive way and didn’t take it in a negative way. But the main thing is how you take it. It's more important."
"So I was thinking it that way. I just want to be comfortable wherever I bat. So I told the coach and staff, "Don't worry wherever you play me, I'm comfortable, and I'll give my best," he added.

Tilak Varma's scintillating 50 ensures a win for MI against DC
It won't be wrong to say that the DC vs MI game is arguably the best game of the IPL 2025 season so far. The match ebbed and flowed continuously before MI managed to come out on top by 12 runs. Batting first, MI posted 205 runs for the loss of five wickets on account of a solid 59-run knock by Varma. Later, DC almost had the game in the pocket, being 135 runs for the loss of two wickets, before botching up the run chase by losing the plot completely. On account of this win, MI finally managed to snap their four-match losing streak.
