Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and decided to have Mumbai Indians bat first. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton walked out to the middle, and the surface appeared fresh, looking like a typical Wankhede pitch.
Mayank Yadav, returning from injury, opened the bowling for LSG. Rickelton took his time to get into the game, scoring a four off his fourth delivery in the first over. He attacked Prince Yadav in the second over, scoring 14 runs, while Rohit Sharma began his usual explosive innings by hitting two consecutive sixes off Mayank Yadav. However, he was dismissed two balls later, with LSG claiming their first wicket as Rohit walked back to the pavilion after scoring 12 runs off 5 balls.
Will Jacks was promoted up the order and joined Rickelton in the middle. Despite losing an early wicket, the MI batsmen controlled the powerplay, finishing at 66/1 after 6 overs. Ryan Rickelton dominated the middle overs with some impressive shots, reaching his second fifty of the season. He and Will Jacks built a 50-run partnership for the second wicket before Digvesh Singh dismissed the well-settled Rickelton for 58 runs off 32 balls with a googly. At this point, MI was at 89/2 after 9 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav Continues his Good Form
Suryakumar Yadav joined Will Jacks, who had been anchoring the innings. Jacks exploded with a 16-run over off Mayank Yadav, hitting two fours and a six. Unfortunately, he was then dismissed by Prince Yadav the following over, caught out for 29 runs off 21 balls. With two new batsmen, Suryakumar and Tilak Varma at the crease, LSG seized the opportunity to stage a comeback after the quick loss of the top order.
However, Suryakumar quickly found his rhythm, hitting boundaries off Ravi Bishnoi before Tilak Varma was dismissed. Hardik Pandya walked in next but couldn’t make an impact, losing his wicket shortly after the time-out to Mayank Yadav, who bowled him out with a hint of reverse swing. At this stage, MI was at 162/5 after 16 overs.
Suryakumar reached his fifty in the next over, taking just 25 balls, finishing with a six off Avesh Khan’s delivery. However, Avesh Khan had the last laugh as Suryakumar misjudged a shot, and Mitchell Marsh completed the catch in the extra cover region. He departed after a solid innings of 54 runs off 28 balls.
Strong finish from MI
Corbin Bosch, the debutant, came in next and joined Naman Dhir in the middle. With two overs left to bat, Digvesh Singh bowled the penultimate over, during which Naman Dhir took him on for 19 runs, hitting two big sixes. Bosch’s efforts helped Mumbai Indians reach 200 runs on the board with just one over remaining.
With six balls left, LSG faced an over-rate penalty, which required them to bring in an extra fielder inside the ring. Avesh Khan began his final over with tight lines, but Corbin Bosch managed to hit a boundary on the third delivery. However, Avesh dismissed him the very next ball. With two balls remaining, Naman Dhir hit a six off the last ball, helping Mumbai Indians finish their innings at 215/7 after 20 overs.
Mumbai Indians set a formidable score thanks to fifties from Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton. However, this presents a challenge for LSG as they have explosive batters in their lineup. Stay tuned for an exciting chase ahead!
