Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a commanding performance in the 12th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium, chasing down a modest target of 117 with ease.Â
After restricting KKR to 116 in 16.2 overs, courtesy of a stellar bowling effort led by debutant Ashwani Kumar’s 4/24, MI’s batters took charge to secure their first win of the season.
Rohit Sharma, entering as an impact substitute for Vignesh Puthur, joined Ryan Rickelton (62*) to open the innings. The duo started cautiously against Spencer Johnson, managing just one run off the first over. However, the floodgates opened in the second over bowled by Harshit Rana. Rohit capitalized on a no-ball with a towering six over long-off.

Andre Russell struck in the sixth over dismissing Rohit for 13 as he mistimed a lofted shot to mid-off, leaving MI at 46/1. Will Jacks joined Rickelton, and the pair quickly steadied the ship.
Rickelton, in particular, shone brightly, reaching his maiden IPL fifty off 33 balls in the 10th over with a six off Sunil Narine. His aggressive strokeplay kept MI ahead of the asking rate for the entirety of the innings.
Jacks departed after scoring a 17-ball 16, becoming Russell's second victim.

Ashwani was named Player of the Match for his outstanding spell.
This victory pushed Mumbai Indians to the sixth position on the points table, while Kolkata Knight Riders dropped down to the bottom.
