Rohit Sharma Has Been Told To Communicate His Plans - BCCI Official
Meanwhile, according to a report in the Times of India, Rohit Sharma's future as India captain will be decided on whether he is able to lead the team to a title win in this tournament. According to sources, "tough discussion over moving on from Rohit at least as captain in ODIs and Tests" may take place at the end of the Champions Trophy campaign.
With the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 and the 2027 ODI World Cup to follow, how Rohit fares in the Champions Trophy final will be an important consideration for his extension as India captain. Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar have already had a discussion on the matter, the report further added.
"Rohit still believes there is some cricket left in him. He has been told to communicate his plans going forward. Retiring is his call but there will be another discussion around continuing with captaincy. Rohit himself understands the need to have a stable captain if the team wants to prepare for a World Cup. There have been talks with Kohli too but there doesn't seem to be much anxiety around him,” a BCCI source told TOI.
While Rohit has not scored the runs he would have wanted with the bat, he has been very proactive as a captain in the tournament so far. He was very busy with his bowling changes in the semi-final against Australia and made all the right moves in terms of his bowling changes. Bringing Varun Chakravarthy against Travis Head was believed to be his mastermind which ultimately worked in India's favour.
Rohit Sharma after having a few low scores would look to make a substantial contribution with the bat in the final on Sunday.
