The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is in full swing with eight teams already seen in action. Now, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) step up for the fifth match of the season on March 25 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, ready to kick off their campaigns.
GT, captained by Shubman Gill, look to rebound from a lackluster IPL 2024, where they finished eighth with five wins in 14 games. PBKS, led by new skipper Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting, come off a ninth-place finish last season, also with five victories, prompting a major squad shake-up.
GT retained their core - Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia. and Shahrukh Khan. The Gujarat-based franchise added big names like Jos Buttler, Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna at auction to boost their line-up.
PBKS retained just Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh and bought back Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar. Iyer, signed for INR 26.75 crore after winning IPL 2024 with KKR, leads a refreshed side featuring Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Lockie Ferguson, Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal, as Ponting aims to end their long wait for success.

The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is known for its variability. Last season, it saw GT getting bowled out for 89 against Delhi Capitals, yet also hosted chases of around 200-run totals, including the one by PBKS. 15 of 25 IPL matches played at this venue have been won by the sides batting second. As a fresh pitch will be dished out, expect batters to find the run-scoring easy. However, they need to be wary about the early movement by the pacers.
