The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 caravan continues to roll on. Eight teams have already played a match each and it's time for the final two sides, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), to show up and face each other in the fifth match of the ongoing season scheduled on March 25 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
GT, led by Shubman Gill, enters the season with a revamped squad after a disappointing eighth-place finish in IPL 2024, where they managed only five wins in 14 matches. Punjab Kings, under new captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting, have undergone a dramatic overhaul after finishing ninth in IPL 2024 with just five wins and nine losses.
GT vs PBKS Match Preview - IPL 2025 Match 5
The departure of talismanic captain Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians before last season left a void in Gujarat Titans, and their bowling struggled without the injured Mohammad Shami. To bolster their line-up, GT retained core players like Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan, while making marquee signings at the mega auction in November 2024.
England’s Jos Buttler, a proven T20 powerhouse joins as an opener, alongside pace spearheads Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, aiming to fortify a bowling attack that faltered last year. GT would also want to work on their run-rate in the powerplay, which was the lowest among all teams in IPL 2024.

Punjab Kings retained only uncapped Indians Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh. They bought back Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar in the auction.
PBKS hit the reset button. Iyer, fresh off leading Kolkata Knight Riders to the title, was signed for INR 26.75 crore, bringing proven leadership and batting prowess. The squad now boasts explosive overseas stars like Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Josh Inglis, complemented by bowling reinforcements Lockie Ferguson, Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal. This new-look PBKS aim to shed its perennial underachiever tag with Ponting vowing to craft “the greatest Punjab Kings team” yet.
