It has been 17 years since the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and only three teams from the inception are yet to win a trophy. Punjab Kings (PBKS) is among that, but what is a worse fact is that they are yet to reach the playoff stage since 2014. Its been 11 years and PBKS have let the fans and supporters down each time by either changing the squad completely, or playing erratic cricket. Continuity and loyalty is what the franchise would be seeking under the Ricky Ponting & Shreyas Iyer Coach-captain combo.
Project Ponting is already trending all over social media and he would be hoping to repay the trust the franchise has shown in him. Shreyas also has a massive role to fill in as a captain. The right-hand batter has won an IPL title with KKR, and PBKS management would be hoping his Midas run continues in PBKS.

Batting Line-up With Strong Power-Hitters
Undoubtedly PBKS stronger suit is their batting. The team is loaded with power hitters like Prabhsimran Singh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Shashank Singh, Marco Jansen and Omarazi. This batting line-up can take any bowling attack to cleaners on their given day. Also, skipper Shreyas can also give the ball a full Monty. However, his role would be slightly different in PBKS as he will play the anchor role.
Often, PBKS have endured batting collapses at the top and middle order, with no batter taking ownership. Shreyas at number three or four offers that stability, were other batters can just tee off from ball one. PBKS have the best finishers in Shashank and Stonis, while Maxwell can also finish games. However, it is to be noted that since last three IPL seasons Maxwell has batted for RCB at number four. It remains to be seen what role Ponting gives to Aussie maverick.
Variety in Bowling Attack
Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen are two of the most dangerous bowlers in the power play in T20s. Both left-arm pacers get the ball to nip away and have the ability to take wickets in first six overs. Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the best leg spinners going around in the IPL. His economy rate of below seven in the middle phase of the innings is one the best in IPL. Apart from these three, PBKS also have the off-spin of Harpeet Brar and Maxwell.
They also have Vyashak, who is hit the deck kind of bowler. Although not much has been seen of the former RCB player, he is coming on the back of a good domestic season.
