The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is heating up as Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) face off in the fifth match of the season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 25, marking the start of their campaigns.
GT, under Shubman Gill’s leadership, hopes to recover from a disappointing 2024 season, where they managed only five wins in 14 matches, landing in eighth place. PBKS, now headed by new captain Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting, aim to improve on their ninth-place finish last year, after a major squad overhaul.
The Titans stuck with key players like Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan, while splashing out at the auction for stars like Jos Buttler, Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna to strengthen their squad. They would want to replicate their 2022 heroics.
PBKS kept only Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh and re-signed Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar at the auction table. Iyer leads a revamped unit including Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Lockie Ferguson, Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal. With this strong line-up, Punjab would hope their trophy drought ends.
