CT 2025: Virat Kohli breaks legendary Ricky Ponting's elusive record in ODIs

One after another record, Virat Kohli is breaking. If not with the bat in hand, the star Indian batter will make it count via Feilding. In the ongoing Champions Trophy clash against Australia, Kohli toppled legendary Ricky Ponting's record for most catches taken by a fielder in ODI cricket.

Kohli achived this historic landmark during the high octone semi-final match in Dubai. The veteran was lightning fast on the outfield and took two catches as India bundled out Australia for a modest total of 264. In 301 matches, Kohli now has taken 161 catches and is sceond on the list of most catches taken by a feilder in ODIs.

Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardena is first on the list, with 218 catches to his name. Ponting had finished his career with 160 catches. Now, he is third on the list. Earlier in the CT match with Pakistan, Kohli had surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin's record of 156 catches in ODI history.

Kohli took Josh Inglis's catch and equaled Ponting. However, soon after in the 49th over he overtook the former Australia captain's catch record when he took a catch of the final delivery of the 49th over.
