After the BGT Test series loss to Australia, its time for the Indian team to shift their focus on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament begins from February 19 and India will play all their league matches in Dubai.
If recent reports are to be believed, Rohit Sharma is all set to lead India in the tournament starting next month. He led India to the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. He next led India to T20 World Cup glory in June last year. Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar and coach Gautam Gambhir will soon start discussions on choosing the team.
A recent Times of India has reported that Rohit Sharma is all set to lead India in the tournament. Meanwhile, the vice-captaincy is a subject of debate. Jasprit Bumrah might be given the responsibility if he is fit enough to play in the tournament. He recently picked up a back injury in the fifth and final Test against Australia in Sydney.

Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya likely to return to ODI squad
Meanwhile, several white-ball specialists like Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Arshhdeep Singh is expected to be back in the Indian squad. Shreyas and Hardik are playing domestic cricket at the moment and are in very good form. Shreyas especially had a good domestic tournament where he scored runs in the Vijay Hazare and Ranji Trophy.
Teams need to choose the provisional squad by January 12 while the deadline to submit the final team is February 13. The tournament begins from February 19 with Pakistan being the official hosts and the defending champions of the tournament. Pakistan defeated India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final to win the tournament.
