The first ODI between Bangladesh Women and West Indies Women turned out to be a one-sided affair, with the West Indies securing an easy 9-wicket win at home. The match, played at Warner Park, saw a complete team performance from the hosts, led by standout contributions from Deandra Dottin with the ball and a commanding knock from captain Hayley Matthews.

After winning the toss, West Indies opted to bowl on a pitch that looked favorable for batting. Bangladesh Women, led by openers Murshida Khan and Fargana Hoque, came out to set a solid foundation. However, it was Deandra Dottin with the new ball who made the initial breakthrough, and once that happened, Bangladesh’s innings began to unravel. While Murshida Khan carried her good form from previous matches, playing an aggressive knock of 40 from 52 balls, the West Indies bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals.

Shamin Akhtar’s fighting knock of 42 from 73 balls was the only other significant contribution in the Bangladesh innings. Unfortunately, the middle and lower order couldn’t build partnerships or provide the support needed, and the team was restricted to 198/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Despite the top order’s contributions, the inability to push for more runs in the middle stages left Bangladesh with a subpar total. West Indies, led by Dottin’s impressive 3/40, were delighted with their bowling performance, as they kept the visitors under control throughout the innings.

When West Indies came out to chase the target, it was Hayley Matthews who stole the show. Along with opening partner Qiana Joseph, Matthews orchestrated a brilliant chase. The pair put together a record-breaking opening stand, with Matthews scoring a stylish 104 from 93 balls. Qiana Joseph, providing excellent support, contributed with a well-played half-century. Together, the duo made light work of the chase, and West Indies comfortably reached the target in just 32 overs, winning by 9 wickets.
