MS Dhoni is warming up for the upcoming 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in his trademark style. During Chennai Super Kings (CSK) practice session, the CSK star can be seen dispatching Matheesha Pathirana into the stands by playing his iconic helicopter shot. Dhoni rolled back the years, by dominating the Lankan speedster, and has given a warning of sorts to other franchise that he is still the best finishers going around.

Despite retiring from international cricket in August 2020, Dhoni is still the heartthrob of CSK. While often the retirement news swirls around Dhoni, the talismanic wicketkeeper-batter has maintained a stoic stance and has kept smashing it for CSK. Last year, the 43-year-old scored 161 runs at a mind-boggling strike rate of 220.54 while averaging close to 54.

In the practice session ahead of the IPL 2025 season, Dhoni did not show any rustiness and flexed his muscles by smoking sixes easily from Pathirana's bowling.

MS Dhoni gears up for yet another IPL season as CSK chase record sixth IPL title

Last year, CSK missed a playoff spot by a whisker as RCB edged them on the basis of a better run rate. Dhoni was at the forefront of that epic group stage match, as CSK failed to chase a 200-plus target. This time, CSK would be eager to make it first to the playoffs, and then aim for an unprecedented sixth IPL title. While Dhoni has not officially mentioned this would be his last IPL season, he would surely cap off his IPL journey with another title.
