The start was precise from Cummins and Scott Boland, leading to the dismissal of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Virat Kohli was nearly dismissed for a golden duck when a catch from Steve Smith was not given out by the umpire a fair decision. However, Virat didn't last long, as he was dismissed by Scott Boland once again with an outside-off delivery. This marked the sixth time in this Test series that Kohli had fallen in that manner, leaving the score at 72/4 after 31 overs.

Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja then formed a partnership, taking their time at the crease. Despite taking multiple blows from the bowlers, Pant batted well until he was eventually trapped by Scott Boland, resulting in a catch in the extra cover region. Nitish Kumar Reddy was dismissed for a golden duck by Boland, who was now on a hat trick. However, Washington Sundar survived the hat trick ball. The collapse continued as Mitchell Starc dismissed Ravindra Jadeja and Prasidh Krishna. Jasprit Bumrah contributed with a quick 22 runs off 17 balls, helping India reach a total of 185.

Australian's Day
