MOhit Sharma GT vs CSK Final

Mohit Sharma reflected on the epic Indian Premier League (IPL) final in 2023 between Gujarat Giants vs Chennai Super Kings. The pacer, who had taken 27 wickets in 14 matches and finished the season as the joint second-leading wicket-taker in the tournament, could not close out the game for GT. For his part, the right-arm pacer had bowled the first four balls exceedingly well and conceded just three runs to CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. However, the tables changed in the last two balls as the southpaw struck a six and four to enable a fifth title for CSK.

GT, who were closing on a second successive IPL title in just their second season, were on their knees as Jadeja did an unthinkable and gave Dhoni a fairytale finish in what was his last season as IPL captain. It's been two years since that GT vs CSK final match however, the memories and heartbreak of that loss are still fresh in Mohit's mind.

Mohit Sharma sheds light on the feeling he had after the final loss against CSK in IPL 2023

The Haryana-born pacer said that it was a bit difficult for him to overcome and stated that it left a mark on him, considering the fairytale season he had otherwise.

“That was a little difficult. If this was a normal game and there are 70-80 games before that, there will be a lot of games where the equation would be 10 runs in the last 2 balls. So it doesn’t matter if it was the 1st or 2nd innings. It was difficult because there are some things that leave a mark on you. It was such a thing that left a mark on me, because I had a fairytale time last season,” Mohit said responding to India TV’s question in a round-table chat with reporters organized by the Delhi Capitals.
“It was possible that I could have executed that thing better. 4 balls were executed, 2 balls were not executed. 2 balls were not executed in such a way that the game changed. So yes, if good things happen, I say it was destiny and move forward. If bad things happen, I say it was destiny and go to the nets,” he added.

In IPL 2025 season, Mohit will turn out for Delhi Capitals (DC) after the franchise bagged him in the IPL 2025 mega auction for 2.20 Crore. Over the years, the pacer has made a quite reputation of being a death over specialist, and DC would be hoping he comes good at the Kotla surface which tends to be a batting paradise for batters.
