Virat Kohli Test Team

Virat Kohli, the prominent Indian batter might not eventually participate in the second round of Ranji Trophy games starting from January 23. He is reportedly suffering from a neck sprain and hence his participation is doubtful.

All the senior players in the Indian team were asked to play domestic cricket after an underwhelming Test series against Australia. The performance of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli especially forced the board to take this decision.

The BCCI has finalised a 10-pointer document with some strict instructions for the players to follow. This decision too is an effect of a few rumours that have been spoken about within the Indian cricket circles. There might be exceptions to the norms but only after prior approval from the chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

DDCA Yet To Get An Update On Virat Kohli's Fitness

Kohli who is suffering from a neck sprain took an injection to recover quickly. However, The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), however, said that they are yet to get an update on the same.

"Virat Kohli had a neck sprain and even took an injection for the same. There is a possibility of him skipping the first of the two Ranji Trophy games left and a clear picture could come if the DDCA selectors are given an update," said a well-placed source.

The BCCI in its recently released guidelines on Thursday has asked the players to play domestic cricket further emphasizing the importance of playing in these games.

"Participation in Domestic Matches is mandatory for players to remain eligible for selection in the national team and for central contracts, as per BCCI guidelines. This policy ensures that players remain connected to the domestic cricket ecosystem, fostering talent development, maintaining match fitness, and strengthening the overall domestic structure. It also inspires emerging players by providing them opportunities to compete alongside top cricketers, ensuring continuity in talent progression," reads one of the points.

Speaking about Virat Kohli, he scored 190 runs in the Test series against Australia including a 100 at Perth. Since 2023, Kohli has scored just three centuries in Test cricket.
