Virat Kohli available to play 2027 ODI World Cup

Star Indian batter Virat Kohli has revealed a major development regarding the future of his international career. Kohli was last seen playing Test cricket against Australia, where he scored 190 runs. Ahead of the IPL, he also played in the ODI Series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have both retired from T20I cricket. Since then there has been a lot of talk about how long will the Indian greats continue to play international cricket. Both Rohit and Kohli on their part have denied any retirement rumors.

Both Kohli and Rohit were instrumental in helping India win their third Champions Trophy title. Team India beat the Kiwis in the final in Dubai to end their 12-year wait to win their third IPL title.

Both are still very crucial cogs in the Indian ODI side with a massive ODI series against Australia lined up down the line this year. Recently, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter attended an event in Mumbai, where he was asked about the possible "next big step" in his career.

"Staying in the present. Any hints about the next big step," asked the host. To this question, Virat Kohli replied, "The next big step. I don't know, but maybe try to win the next World Cup" much to the happiness of the gathering present there.

Virat Kohli was the leading run-scorer in the ODI World Cup with 765 runs from 11 matches at an average of 95.62. He was a part of India's 2011 World Cup winning team but since then has played three World Cups and has seen the team bowing out of the tournament either in the semi-final or final.

He was also disappointed with the way he played in the Australia Test series, scoring just 190 runs in the series. India had to win that series to qualify for the WTC final but they could not. Kohli was repeatedly dismissed outside the off stump.

"If you ask me the intensity of how disappointed I've been... for me, the most recent Australia tour would be the one that's most fresh. So, it might feel the most intense to me. But I can't look at it that way. I might not have an Australia tour again in me in four years' time,” Kohli stated at an event before the IPL 2025 began.

Meanwhile, Kohli's RCB has won back-to-back games in IPL 2025, beating sides like KKR and CSK. RCB takes on Gujarat Titans in their next game on April 2.
