Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian skipper did not have a good start with the bat in the first two games against England. He scored a duck in the first game and just 12 in the second.

He will get another chance with the bat when the two teams play the third T20I in Rajkot on Tuesday. Though he did not score too many runs, Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak is not worried about his form.

Addressing the pre-match press conference ahead of the third T20I, he said that Surya is playing selfless cricket as are the other batters within the side. He further said that with the batters playing particularly attacking cricket, they cannot be guaranteed to score in every game.

"Surya, I think he is performing, but sometimes I feel we also expect a lot. Every game, if we think Surya will perform (that is not okay). The game has become so aggressive, there is so much intent we have to play in the T20s, there will be a time when they get out because they are playing fearless (cricket)," Kotak said in the pre-match press conference ahead of the third T20I.

Kotak further elaborated on India's batting approach and how Surya has been selflessly leading the pack and setting an example for the others in the team.

"Because if you want to score 200-225, you cannot play cricket where you are trying to save your wickets. Both things do not go hand in hand. He plays a brand of cricket for the team which is very, very selfless, and that is what he tells the batters as well. There are games he will perform, and there are games where he will not," Kotak added.

Suryakumar Yadav's Numbers Have Dipped Since Becoming India's T20I Skipper

Since the T20 World Cup 2024, SKY has scored just 242 runs in 11 games at an average of just 22. This is a major dip in his form as compared to the runs he scored in 2022 and 2023. He was the highest run-getter in the format in 2022 scoring 1164 runs in 31 innings at 46.56 and a strike rate of 187.43, hitting two centuries and nine half-centuries. In 2023, he scored 733 runs in 23 innings at 48.86 and a strike rate of 155.95.

His numbers as a batter have even dropped further since he became India's T20I skipper. He has scored just two fifties since becoming India's full-time T20I skipper. SKY averages 31.17 as a captain in T20Is and 43.40 when playing as a pure batter.
