South Africa vs New Zealand: Matthew Breetzke Sets Record for Highest ODI Score 150 on Debut

Matthew Breetzke, a recent sensation and consistently impressive performer, rose through the ranks during the SA20 while playing for Durban Super Giants (DSG). He has finally made his ODI debut in the ongoing tri-series against New Zealand. 

Breetzke's debut was memorable, as he scored a century and went on to set the record for the highest-ever score by a batter on debut, reaching 150 runs. He surpassed the long-standing record of 148 runs set by Desmond Haynes against Australia in 1948. 

Breetzke's innings were composed and methodical, accumulating runs at a steady pace. He finished with a score of 150 runs off 148 balls, including 11 fours and 5 sixes, helping South Africa post a total of over 300 runs.

Kane Williamson's century overshadowed Breetzke's debut ton. 

The in-form Williamson showcased his return to form with his 14th century, leading his team to a significant victory against South Africa. Coming back from injury, he had a solid tournament with the Durban Super Giants and continued that momentum by scoring a century in their 304-run chase against South Africa. 

This marked Williamson's second-fastest century, achieved in just 72 balls at a strike rate of 140. He was batting on 110* off 87 balls, guiding his team to a comfortable win and securing a place in the finals of the tri-series. The entire New Zealand team, including Glenn Phillips, Devon Conway, and Daryl Mitchell, looked impressive on the field, making them strong contenders for the Champions Trophy.
