Smriti Mandhana yet again proved why she is rated as the best batter of her generation after a superlative knock (81) enabled Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL). RCB skipper's stunning knock came off just 47 balls, which all but shut the door on DC. Legendary cricketer Mithali Raj lavished huge praise on Mandhana stating, that the RCB skipper has laid a marker for the team by playing aggressively at the top.
In a chase of 142, the RCB skipper did not go about the innings cautiously, rather, the southpaw took the attack to the opposition and made a statement of sorts. Mandhana attacked from word go and did not allow any of the DC bowlers to settle. The southpaw's knock of (81) contained 10 fours and three sixes. Mandhana got to her fifty of just 27 balls, which was also her fastest fifty in WPL.

Along with Danni Wyatt-Hodge (42), the RCB raced to 100 runs inside just 10 overs. Mithali was impressed with Mandhana for setting the right template at the top of the order. The former cricketer liked the southpaw's aggressive intent, which allowed RCB to breeze past DC's target of 142.
RCB start WPL 2025 season with a bang, win two games on a trot
With the win against DC, RCB now have won two games on the bounce. They started the WPL 2025 campaign on a winning note by chasing 202 against GG - the highest-ever run chase in WPL history. While the bowling let down in GG's game, the bowlers turned the tide against DC by dismantling the opposition to just 141. Renuka Thakur was the star performer, with three wickets to her name. The defending champions have made a statement of sorts to other teams - They are ready to defend the tile.
