Ahead of the ICC event, the premier batters getting dismissed cheaply is not a good sign for the batting lineup. Rohit and Pant could not score too many runs in the Test series against Australia. The duo has found it hard to regain form in domestic cricket as well.

The BCCI previously made playing domestic cricket mandatory for all Indian players. The call was taken to get them better at red-ball cricket. However, the recent run of scores does not make a good case for the Indian batters.

Previously, Rohit responded to BCCI's mandate on playing domestic cricket for all Indian players. He said that with India playing international cricket throughout the year, there is not much time for them to play domestic cricket.

However, given how the top Indian batters have performed in Test cricket in the home series against New Zealand and then in the BGT, getting back to domestic cricket was the need of the hour.
