Shadab Khan Saqlain Muhtaq news

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has finally broken the silence on the rumors of getting favors from his father-in-law and former Pakistani player Saqlain Mushtaq to stay in the national team. Despite Shadab not performing badly, he was dropped from the Champions Trophy 2025 squad. However, before the global event, Shadab was a regular feature in Pakistan's white-ball formats.

A lot of experts and fans questioned the all-rounder's place in the team despite middling returns. The criticism was harsh on him that since he is Mushtaq's son-in-law, he won't be dropped from the team. To make things worse, Shadab was also recalled for Pakistan's T20I side against New Zealand and was chosen as the designated vice-captain. This led to widespread rumors that Mushtaq is pushing for the all-rounder's inclusion in the Pakistan team.

While speaking to the media ahead of the PSL opener, Shadab addressed the issue and put a full stop to all the rumors.

“It is frustrating and disappointing to hear such things because my career is nearly seven years long. I have given some good performances since debuting for Pakistan. Yes, I am learning a lot from Saqlain Mushtaq because of his strong cricket coaching background. But it does not mean he is doing me favors,” Shadab said.

“It hurts when the connection with Saqlain Mushtaq is repeatedly brought up. I have been trying to improve my bowling by working with my father-in-law because I consider myself more beneficial to the team as a bowler than a batter,” Shadab added.

Shadab Khan set to lead Islamabad United & defend PSL title

The 28-year-old will next be seen in the 10th edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season. Shadab will turn out for Islamabad United (IU) and will yet again lead the side after winning the ninth edition of PSL last year. The all-rounder would look to repeat the heroics of last year's performance, wherein he scored 305 runs and took 14 wickets. The United are one of the most successful franchises in PSL, winning the title three times.
