Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has come under the scanner for his poor returns for his franchise so far in IPL 2025. The Australian was roped in for 4.2 crores by the Kings in the mega auction.
However, he has had a below-par season with the bat so far for the 2014 IPL runners-up. He has just scored 48 runs in seven matches for the franchise at an average of 8 and a strike rate below 100.
The Australian has played seven out of the nine matches for his side. Heading into their next match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 30, the management is thinking of dropping him. He last played in the rained-out game against KKR at Eden Gardens.

No Idea What They Will Do With Maxi - Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra, previewing the game on his YouTube channel, has specifically spoken about the inclusion of Glenn Maxwell in the XI. He has been an enigma for the franchise who has promised more than delivered. His inconsistency has been a subject of debate this IPL season.
"Shreyas Iyer scored a few runs in the last match, but you expect a bigger knock from him. This team has the most exciting opening combination. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, the two uncapped Indians, are doing really well," Chopra said.
"I have got no idea what they will do with Maxi, because they have tried everything, but the guy is not performing. If he is not performing, I don't know how they will persist with him, or will they play Marcus Stoinis because Marcus Stoinis played a mighty knock at this ground? So maybe that is what you want to do," he further said on Maxwell.
The former Indian opener further spoke about the chances of Punjab Kings making the playoffs. They have endured one of their best seasons in recent times in IPL 2025. Under Shreyas Iyer, they are currently placed fifth on the IPL 2025 points table. They are on 11 points from nine games after their previous rain-affected game against KKR. As of now three teams (MI, GT and DC) are stuck on 12 points each, with RCB leading the points table with 14 points.
"Punjab lost to RCB at home. There was a break, and then they scored 200 runs, but the match got rained off. Punjab are now just outside the top four. So, at times, you feel you cannot slip now, because if you slip now, you will get stuck," Chopra said.

PBKS Can Outbat CSK: Aakash Chopra
He concluded by saying that PBKS can outbat CSK in the battle of sixes with plenty of big hitters on the side. He backed Punjab to beat a struggling CSK at the moment.
"They are a solid team. They are a six-hitting team, and they are a team that can go to Chennai and hit so many sixes that they can outbat the opposition. That is also possible. In bowling also, they will put together a strong performance," Chopra concluded saying.
