Ravichandran Ashwin had taken cricket world by storm when he had announced retirement from the international stage during the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Ashwin, who was 38 during the time he hung his boots did not wait for the conclusion of the IND vs Aus five-match Test series. The former India off-spinner's aim was to play 100 Tests for his country, which he did while playing his marquee Test against England in Dharamshala. Ashwin had even asked his former captain MS Dhoni to grace the occasion, but for some reasons the CSK star could not make it for Ashwin's landmark 100th Test.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had organized a special ceremony for his 100th Test, where the veteran cricketer was also given a memento. But the off-spinner was in for bigger surprise when CSK Signed him in the mega auction in 2025 for 9.5 Crore.

"I called MS Dhoni for my 100th Test in Dharamshala to hand over the memento. I wanted to make that my last Test. But he couldn't make it. However, I didn't think he would give me the gift of getting me back to CSK. It's a much better one. So, thank you, MS, for doing it. I'm glad to be here," said Ashwin during a book launch event in Chennai on Sunday.

For the unversed, it was in CSK in the IPL 2008 season that Ashwin made a mark. is stellar performances in the T20 league led him to play for India in all the three formats of the game. Ashwin has won two IPL titles with CSK, and will be looking to add a third title when he dons the iconic yellow jersey in his twilight of his career.

"Most importantly, I have come back to CSK not as someone who has achieved so much but as someone who has gone through the full circle and wants to come back here and enjoy just like before. It is a wonderful place to be," he added.
