Former Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni is playing yet another edition of the IPL in 2025. CSK last won the title in 2023. Since 2024, it has been a struggle for the former skipper in the cash-rich league.
In this edition of the IPL so far, MS Dhoni has batted at seven or below in the first four games. He walked out to bat as low as ninth in the game against RCB. The Bold Army won their first match at the Chepauk since 2008 in that game.
Against Mumbai Indians, he walked out to bat at number eight. CSK won that match due to Noor Ahmad's brilliance. He batted at seven against RR and scored 16 runs off 11 balls. The stage was set with CSK needing 20 runs off the final over to win the match, but MS Dhoni could not replicate his past heroics. Against DC, he walked out to bat at number seven with his side needing over 100 runs in the final 10 overs. However, MS Dhoni's lack of intent to go for the runs, left cricket experts surprised. As a result CSK lost the match by 25 runs.

MS Dhoni's Take On His IPL Retirement
Recently, the former CSK skipper appeared on a podcast with popular YouTuber Raj Shamani. In that podcast, he spoke in detail about his retirement from the IPL. He said that he would give himself 8 months to prepare for the next IPL season. If he thinks his body is feeling good, he will continue for yet another season. He said that he would add another year before deciding on his future in the IPL.
"No, not right now. I am still playing the IPL. I have kept it very simple, I take it one year at a time, I am 43, by the time IPL 2025 finishes, I will be 44, so after that I have 10 months to decide if I would play or not. But it is not me deciding, it is my body that decides. So, one year at a time, we will see after that," MS Dhoni said in the podcast.
CSK head coach Stephen Fleming was asked the same question on MS Dhoni's retirement in the post-match press conference. He said that he did not chat with Dhoni about retirement anymore.
"I have no idea. I'm just enjoying working with him still. He is still going strong. I don't even ask [about his future] these days," Stephen Fleming said after the match.
