Mitchell Marsh IPL

In a massive boost for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been cleared to play in the upcoming 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, Australia's T20 captain is only cleared to play as a pure batter after recovering from a back injury he suffered ahead of the Champions Trophy.

Marsh is expected to join the LSG franchise next week and is set to play a key role in the franchise albeit in a limited capacity. According to ESPNCricinfo the all-rounder saw a specialist in February and has returned to batting in the recent weeks. Marsh was bagged by Sanjiv Goenka group LSG for 3.3 Crore in IPL 2025 mega auction.

While the management brought the star player to fulfill dual roles in the team, now they may have to use him as an impact player since he wont be bowling.

LSG's Plan hampers as Marsh unfit to bowl

For the uninitiated, LSG's stragey in the mega auction was to build a strong core of Indian fast bowlers, and buy power packed foreign batters. LSG struck to the guns and roped in David Miller, Aiden Markram and Marsh in the mega auction, to go with Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant. Marsh was seen as one of the opening batters.

However, he won't be bowling, and that gives LSG a headache as only four foreign players can pay in the playing 11. Also, in IPL impact rules if you want to bring a foreign player as an impact player, then you have to name only three players in the playing 11. The fourth foreign player can be used later by the team. It is to be seen if LSG uses Marsh as an impact player.
