Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets to begin their season with a massive victory. From Ruturaj's intent-filled knock to Rachin's calm and mature chase, it was a complete performance that secured the win for Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk.
To everyone’s surprise, it was not Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad who opened the innings with Rachin Ravindra, but rather Rahul Tripathi. Just like old times, the Mumbai Indians summoned Trent Boult to bowl with the new ball. The first delivery was a stump-to-stump line from Boult, who was attempting to swing the ball. Rachin got off the mark with a quick two runs, and they completed the first over with a total of 5 runs as they began their chase for the Super Kings.
Deepak Chahar was given the ball to bowl from the other end, but unfortunately, he couldn't find any swing. Nevertheless, Chahar continued to experiment with his variations and managed to surprise Rahul Tripathi with a short ball, which the batter edged to wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton, who took a comfortable catch. Tripathi was dismissed for just 2 runs off 3 balls, giving the Mumbai Indians their first breakthrough of the match.
Gaikwad's Fastest Fifty
In walked CSK’s captain, greeted by a huge roar from the crowd. He started his innings with a beautiful cover drive off Trent Boult. The crowd was captivated as Gaikwad hit two exquisite fours, unsettling Boult right away. Ruturaj continued to flourish during the powerplay, taking on the bowlers and helping CSK reach 62/1 at the end of 6 overs, with Rachin Ravindra playing the role of anchor for his captain.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was leading his side from the front with an aggressive knock and reached his fastest fifty in the Indian Premier League in just 22 balls. At this point, Chennai Super Kings were ahead in the game, having brought the required run rate under 6.5.

Vignesh Puthur Shines on Debut
As the game seemed to slip away from the Mumbai Indians, Surya Kumar Yadav introduced his impact substitute, 24-year-old spinner Vignesh Puthur from Kerala. To everyone’s surprise, Puthur deceived CSK’s captain Ruturaj Gaikwad with his pace, giving the Mumbai Indians a much-needed breakthrough. He then struck again, dismissing both Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda, who tried to take on the debutant but ended up getting caught. These quick wickets opened the game up for the Mumbai Indians. Surya Kumar Yadav continued to rely on his spinners, with Will Jacks taking another wicket by bowling Sam Curran, who went for an expansive shot. Mumbai Indians slowly clawed their way back into the game, achieving 75/5 in 16 overs with 31 runs needed from 24 balls.
Rachin Ravindra Finishes it for CSK
With four overs remaining, Surya Kumar Yadav brought back Trent Boult. Ravindra Jadeja broke the shackles with a boundary off Boult’s delivery, bringing CSK closer to the target. However, Boult struggled with his variations due to the dew. SKY reintroduced Vignesh for his final over, and Rachin Ravindra took him on, striking a killer blow to finish the match for CSK in style. Chennai Super Kings kicked off their season with a win, defeating the Mumbai Indians, who once again lost their first match of the season.
