Chennai Super Kings (CSK) scored 61 runs in the first 10 overs of the 25th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) scheduled against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 11.
MS Dhoni returned as the CSK captain, replacing Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to an elbow fracture. He became the oldest captain in the IPL history.
Opting to bowl first, KKR put CSK to bat. For the first time this season, CSK batted in the first innings.

Like the rest of the season, CSK’s powerplay was unforgettable to say the least. They scored only 31 runs in first six overs for the fall of two wickets.
CSK’s openers Devon Conway (12 runs off 11 balls) and Rachin Ravindra (4 runs off 9 balls) perished early, trying to attack after the dot balls piled up. Vaibhav Arora, bowling the first over, gave away just six runs.
KKR took advantage of the spin-friendly conditions as Ajinkya Rahane gave Moeen Ali the ball in only the second over that yielded four runs. The following over bowled by Vaibhav was also economical as CSK could only accumulate six runs off it.
Conway decided to throw caution to the wind but departed back to the dressing room in the process. He played a reverse sweep off Moeen but failed to get the desired result and was adjudged LBW. The off-spinner bowled a wicket-maiden.
Rachin too played an aerial shot on the first ball of the fifth over off Harshit Rana and got holed out at the extra-cover region.

Vijay Shankar (29 runs off 21 balls), walking in at No.4, was dropped by Sunil Narine in the fifth over. He made KKR pay immediately and smacked two boundaries off Varun Chakaravarthy to end the powerplay.
He then tonked Moeen for a six, the first of the innings for CSK. Rahul Tripathi, who was struggling to time the ball, gathered his first boundary off Harshit in the eighth over.
After the time out, Chakaravarthy dismissed Shankar, who was given quite a few opportunities.
At the end of 10 overs, CSK are at 61/3 with Tripathi and Shivam Dube batting unbeaten on 15 and one run respectively.
