Indian wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul will be playing for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. The former LSG skipper was roped in by the Capitals for 14 crores and is now set to play a pivotal role for DC this year.
According to reports in the Times Of India, Rahul is set to bat in the middle-order for the Capitals possibly at number four or five. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter has achieved a lot of success batting in the middle-order and now the Capitals management are banking on him to score runs for them as well.
According to the report, DC’s batting lineup will feature Jake Fraser-McGurk, Faf du Plessis, and Abhishek Porel at the top, while Rahul will be deployed lower down to provide stability and experience. The decision, it seems, was heavily influenced by Harry Brook’s withdrawal from the tournament, leaving DC in need of a solid presence in the middle order.

KL Rahul Has Scored Just 500 Runs When Playing NOT As An Opener
Across his IPL career, Rahul has played 33 matches outside the opening slot, scoring 500 runs at an average of 29.41 and a strike rate of 117.92.
“After Harry Brook's decision to withdraw from the league, DC wanted a right-handed batter in the middle order, and Rahul fits the bill,” the report stated.
Delhi Capitals is Rahul's fifth IPL franchsie. He has played for SRH, RCB, PBKS and LSG in the past. He was the captain of the Super Giants and took them to the playoffs in IPL 2022 and 2023. The LSG management decided to part ways with allowing The Capitals to rope in the star Indian batter. There are reports that DC approached Rahul for captaincy for IPL 2025 but he denied it. The Capitals then announced Axar Patel as the captain with Faf du Plessis set to be his deputy for the season.
DC will kick off their campaign against Rahul's former franchise, Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 in Visakhapatnam. So far, Rahul's IPL career has been a glorious one where he has scored 4,683 runs in 123 innings at an average of 45.46 and a strike rate of 134.60. He remains one of only two players – alongside Virat Kohli – to have scored over 600 runs in a single season four times.
