India's Top ODI Wicket-Taker Mohammed Siraj Excluded from Champions Trophy 2025 Squad

India's leading wicket-taker in ODIs over the past two years, Mohammed Siraj, has surprisingly been dropped from the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. Siraj has been one of India's best fast bowlers in recent years, particularly in the ODI format. His performances against Sri Lanka and in conditions that favor swing have often showcased him as a formidable opponent.

Previously, Siraj was a regular member of the Indian squad as the second new ball bowler, alongside Jasprit Bumrah. However, he has now been replaced by Arshdeep Singh, who will serve as the third pacer after Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

Since the beginning of 2023, Siraj has taken 47 wickets at an average of 22.40, with a best bowling figure of 6 for 21.  Despite these impressive statistics, it wasn't sufficient for him to secure a place in the squad. When asked about Siraj's exclusion, Indian captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged Siraj's exceptional ability to bowl with the new ball but noted that he tends to struggle with line and length as the ball ages. Consequently, he has been less effective in death overs compared to his peers.

Despite being dropped from the Champions Trophy 2025 squad, Mohammad Siraj was also not selected for the England ODI squad. He has been replaced by Harshit Rana, who recently made his international debut during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy held in Australia. Rana is a new addition to the team and will have the chance to showcase his skills in the ODI format. Gautam Gambhir has praised Rana's abilities, suggesting that his inclusion is part of a long-term strategy.
