India won the first ODI in Nagpur by four wickets as they successfully chased 249 with Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill playing key roles with the bat,.. While Gill scored 87 off 96 balls and played the anchor role, Iyer scored a free-flowing half-century to make his presence felt in the game.
England won the toss and opted to bat first. Phil Salt (43) and Ben Duckett (32) gave the team a good start adding 75 for the first wicket in nine overs. However, Phil Salt's run out in the ninth over gave India an opportunity and they made a brilliant comeback in the game.
They kept chipping away with the wickets not allowing the middle-order batters to have any kind of impact in the game. Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell both scored 50s and added a 59-run stand for the fifth wicket. While Buttler was out to a mistimed shot from Axar Patel, Jadeja dismissed Bethell.

The England innings lacked the momentum throughout the middle- overs after the good start from the openers. Harshit Rana and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each, while Shami, Kuldeep and Axar took one each.
India Make Winning Start In Nagpur
Talking about the Indian chase, it was a shocker of a start. Yashasvi Jaiswal on debut fell on 15. Rohit Sharma continued his bad run of form and was dismissed tried to play an attacking shot early on. He scored just two. Shreyas Iyer who replaced Virat Kohli in the side scored a quickfire 59 off 36 balls. He hit nine fours and two sixes in his innings and looked in sublime touch. Shubman Gill anchored the innings with a brilliant 87. However, he too was dismissed trying to play an attacking shot as he was nearing his century.
After Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel had a good partnership with Shubman Gill. The duo added a 108-run stand with the left-hander also playing freely. He notched up his third ODI fifty as he scored 52 off 47 balls. India lost the wickets of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul in quick succession when the team was closing in on a win. Ravindra Jadeja in the end scored an unbeaten 12 off 10 balls and took India to victory.
